The CHAMPS peer mentoring program matches new undergraduate and graduate student mentees with experienced, successful students and alumni mentors. Each mentorship follows a seven-step milestone program designed to promote new student success for mentees and provide leadership development opportunities for mentors.
-
As a faculty member, you are instrumental in helping CHAMPS recruit new mentees and mentors simply by posting an announcement promoting the program in your classroom. If you have a student who could use extra help navigating resources or just a little extra support, your recommendation that the student check out the CHAMPS program can have a big impact.
-
CHAMPS is great for students looking for leadership experience who have mastered the classroom and acclimated well to UAGC. When you see these students, encourage them to become mentors and share their knowledge and experience with less experienced students.
How do students access CHAMPS?
- Students access CHAMPS via their student portal. Students can sign up by logging into their student portal and clicking on “UAGC Connect” under the Career Alumni Services area. After a few brief questions to complete their profile and a qualification verification step by program administrators, they will be ready for orientation.
- All new mentee and mentor orientations will be completed asynchronously in CHAMPS. Program administrators arrange new pairings on the first and third Tuesday of each month, allowing students to quickly and easily get connected with the CHAMPS community.
- Students may participate in either one-to-one mentoring or opt into a small group (4-5 mentees with one mentor) when they sign up.
