To add attachments to a Course Announcement, you will need to follow these instructions:

***Do not use the option at the bottom to attach.  Use the headings under "Topic Title" instead.

  • Click on Insert.
  • Click on Document (or Image/Media if that's the desired attachment).
  • Select Upload Document if it's a new document you have never added to a course (or your Canvas User Files) in the past, OR select User Documents if you've attached/uploaded the file for a course in the past.

This process will also help reduce the chance of a teacher meeting their user storage quota.  Anytime a teacher adds an attachment or uploads the same document they've posted in previous classes, it creates a duplicate file in their Canvas User Files.  Selecting the User Documents option will create a link (just like attaching a document would) in the announcement for students to use, but it will avoid creating duplicate files (which counts against the storage quota).
