Department of Education definitions about substantive classroom interaction mirror UAGC student in that they highlight the importance of personalization in instructive feedback. Accordingly, Faculty Affairs' academic year 2023-2024 faculty development curriculum focuses on facilitating discourse about the theories that can shape effective instructive feedback practices. Central to this theme are the connections between the theories that inform both course development and course facilitation.
Faculty Affairs developed a workshop to ensure our team understood this curriculum's possible applications. This workshop provided a structured opportunity for discourse, backed by research about strategies for providing effective feedback to students. Accordingly, Faculty Affairs offers these workshops to any faculty who would like to conduct this discourse in their own functional areas.
Each of the four workshops includes:
- A cognitive primer with pre-reading,
- A PowerPoint for the workshop,
- An activity to reinforce the concepts.
The workshop takes approximately 90 minutes (about 30 minutes for pre-reading, 30 minutes for the workshop discussion, and 30 minutes for the activity and discussion). However, faculty are encouraged to tailor these materials to their department's needs; these materials are just a starting point.
