You play a critical role in ensuring that UAGC accurately captures student attendance. As an attendance taking institution, UAGC must abide by attendance requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. Student interaction in the classroom must be substantive and academic in nature, in order to count towards attendance for the purposes of Federal Financial Aid for eligible students. This message provides an important reminder of the significance of attendance at UAGC and resources on how you support the process.

What Constitutes Attendance at UAGC?

To meet the attendance definition and policy, as listed in the Academic Catalog, students must complete academic work in a substantive way. While the quality of students’ attempts at academic work naturally varies, there are a few scenarios that cannot count for attendance, such as:

  • Discussion forum posts that state “Posting for attendance.” Or “Attendance post.” (or similar wording)
  • Blank assignment submissions
  • Submissions with only punctuation, a few characters, or only emojis
  • Quizzes that are opened and immediately closed with no action

What is My Role?

When you encounter student work like the examples listed above, submit a Non-Qualifying Attendance Post Report to provide specific information related to the post. This information will guide the Registrar’s Office and Academic Affairs in determining if the activity substantiates attendance. Submissions not appropriately academic in nature are subject to review and may be disqualified for attendance purposes.

As members of the UAGC community, it is important we all uphold the policy and report the instances in question. Doing so supports the institution’s continued ability to offer Federal Financial Aid to eligible students. We appreciate your partnership in this effort!
