In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended, UAGC prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. Reasonable accommodations will be granted to students who present appropriate documentation of disability and are otherwise qualified to participate in their specific program of study.
UAGC is committed to supporting student success and creating an inclusive and supportive environment. The UAGC Office of Student Access and Wellness (OSAW) fosters equal opportunities for student success through accessible educational programs, disability-related advocacy, faculty and staff education, and an enhanced awareness of individual abilities and contributions. The Office of Student Access and Wellness is committed to an environment that respects and values diversity and encourages self-advocacy and self-determination.
Accommodations and services available to students who qualify include:
- Disability-related advocacy and advising
- Course textbooks provided in electronic format
- Course audio content and related activities are provided in an accessible format (captioned videos, transcripts, or live remote captioning)
- Authorization of note taker or scribe for student coursework
- Additional time to complete quizzes, exams, and assessments
- Additional time to complete assignments, projects, and papers
- Tutoring services
- Community referral and liaison
If a student has a disability that warrants a particular accommodation not listed above, contact access@uagc.edu to discuss this request with OSAW staff. Students are responsible for disclosing disability information and requesting accommodation in accordance with University requirements. Students who need assistance, even on a temporary basis, are encouraged to utilize the services available through the Office of Student Access and Wellness.
- The Office of Student Access and Wellness recommends that students with authorized accommodations email a copy of their current accommodation form to their instructor during the first week of the course. However, this is not a requirement; a student may choose to disclose a disability at any point in the course.
- The timeframe for disclosing a disability is not limited to the first week of the course, and students often disclose a disability later in the course when they have not arranged authorized accommodations previously through the Office of Student Access and Wellness.
- When a student discloses a disability and does not have an authorized accommodation, faculty should send a referral to access@uagc.edu (see the email template linked below). A student's disclosure could be direct or implied by the student to the Instructor. For examples and further information regarding a student disclosing a disability, please see the Disability Disclosure Job Aid – OSAW.
- A student who has completed the documentation process with the Office of Student Access and Wellness will have a signed Authorized Accommodation form to present to you. These students have had accommodations authorized by the Office of Student Access and Wellness staff. Again, this documentation can be presented at any point during the course, not just during the first week of class.
- If you have any questions regarding a specific student or accommodations, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Office of Student Access and Wellness at access@uagc.edu
