Often, when a student hits a rough patch in a course, their first instinct is to withdraw, and they may turn to you for advice. However, because a withdrawal is considered an unsuccessful grade and has financial implications, it might not be the best course of action in every case.
If a student asks you about withdrawing, let them know that you are willing to work with them on deadlines in your course, ensure they understand the student attendance policy, and direct them to their academic advisor for guidance on whether to withdraw from a course. Be sure to copy students’ academic advisors on any emails concerning withdrawals.
